Day 1 St. Jean to Roncesvalles

We spent the night in the home of a French women in St Jean. She spoke only French, but we managed. She rents out 3 rooms in her house. We had a large room with a balcony that opened onto the back yard  it was 28 euros. We went to the church in the village and lit candles for our family and friends. We walked around the wall   We ate basque food at a small bar and Stu is sending the picture. Two old tires with cracks in the side walls and little tread rolled out and started. Walking through the farmland with fresh grass smells and animal essences. So free and fresh. Exhileration enthusiasm endorphin flow made our steps effortless. So much of the journey is still very much over the horizon. We will make it,  if we can move in the morning.

Our walk today, the first on our journey was strenuous. We walked from St Jean to Roncesvalles. Stu was happy the whole time. Chattering away.
