Ponferrada to Pereje
We started out a little late this morning because they had locked the gates at night and don't open them until 6:30. So off we went through the city looking for arrows. Whenever we are unsure a person on foot or in a car will point the direction without us having to ask a question. It was a gorgeous day. Blue sky and very warm. We walked thru several cities but then back to the country. Today we walked through vineyards some farms and past many cherry trees. There were fig and apple but mostly cherry. We then started up the mountain. We stopped at the first village where 50 people live. A bar and an albergue and a few houses. To get into the albergue you go across to the bar and she comes over and opens it. A beautiful place with 2 dorms with real beds. A woman's bath and a mans bath. A place to wash your clothes and lots of sun to dry them We walked 19 miles. We were both tired but tomorrow we walk to O'Cebreiro which is 4297 feet and 25 k from here. It would have been 30 k if we stopped where the book recommends. We got here about 1:30 because we stopped to see Villafranca, a city with great architecture.
